3. The Eco-Friendly Environment
Portland is well known for being so environmentally conscientious. The city’s recycling programs are among the best in the country, and those programs even extend to food! This mindset can inspire artists to reuse and recycle what might otherwise be considered trash — or even to make statement about consumer culture with their art. From statues made from old bike frames to soda bottle projects, Portland artists have come up with thought-provoking art. And just because it’s one man’s trash doesn’t mean that it can’t be made into something beautiful in another person’s artistic hands.
