3. Oakland, California: Corridor of Crime
With a population of approximately 400,000 people, Oakland, California boasts nearly 1,700 murders per 100,000 residents. This fact alone, grouped with its proximity to some of the nation’s most notorious drug corridors and a consistently high crime rate, makes Oakland an easy target to be named one of the country’s worst places to raise children.
Like other places in the United States, this city has had a history of high crime rates and violence issues. Unfortunately, nothing seems to be changing anytime soon. In 2013, Oakland had more robberies per capita than any other large city in the United States of America.
