Brief History: About Praslin Island

Praslin Island, for a time, served as a hideout for pirates as well as Arab traders some time in the year 1744. It was in this same year that the island was called “Isle de Palmes” by Lazare Picault, a French explorer most famous for his explorations around Seychelles.

In the year 1768, the island was renamed Praslin in honor of César Gabriel de Choiseul, duc de Praslin.
