Bazaruto Archipelago in Vilankulo City – Mozambique

The Bazaruto Archipelago is one of the premiere attractions of Mozambique. There are several sightseeing spots and also numerous activities you can do.

Location

Made up of several islands, the archipelago is located off the Vilanculos coast. Inhassoro and Vilanculos are the primary ways to reach the island. The season begins in October up to January. The archipelago is considered one of the best Black marlin destinations in the world. The archipelago’s salt waters are ideal for those who love to go fly fishing.

History

The archipelago is composed of five islands: Bangue, Santa Carolina, Magaruque, Benguerra and Bazaruto. Its diverse ecosystem has made it one of the biggest attractions in the country. It was eventually turned into a national park and a conservation area. Today it is the only marine reserve in Mozambique. Its diverse ecosystem makes it very important for the Indian Ocean.

The Bazaruto Archipelago is also famous for its sailing safaris. These commence at Vilanculos. Visitors to the island can also enjoy horse safaris. These take place on Benguerra Island. The beaches there have white sand and are unspoiled.
