The resort is in Sofia Province. The resort can be easily reached from Sofia as it is only 73 km away. If you are coming from Ploviv, the distance is 125 km. The closest airport is Sofia. Bulgaria Air, British Airways and other major airlines can take you there.
What to See There
The skiing sector in Borovets in Sofia is divided in two. The smaller one goes down to the major resort served by a couple of chairlifts. The second one can be reached by way of a Gondola. This is larger with red and blue runs. For beginners, there are numerous ski schools to choose from. There are also areas for snowboarding with numerous slopes.
Besides skiing, visitors can enjoy the saunas, pools and gyms. You can also go to the Rila Monastery and visit the various lakes in the area.
History
The resort is the oldest in Bulgaria and dates back to 1896. The resort was set up during the 19th century for use by the kings of Bulgaria. As the years went by, the area would turn into a ski resort.
It would go on to host the World Cup Alpine Skiing in 1981 and 1984. Its Bitahlon track is now recognized as one of the finest in the world. As its popularity grew, haute-cuisine restaurants, luxury and budget restaurants would appear.

A trip there doesn’t have to be expensive. You can buy a bottle of beer for less than 2 Pounds. Cost of lift passes vary, but a six day lift pass usually costs 125 Pounds. However, it is often cheaper to get one via your tour operator.
