Location
This town is located at the Neman River to the south of Lithuania. It is near the borders of Poland and Belarus. You can reach the city by bus from Kaunas or Vilnius.

History
This town has been settled in since the medieval age. During the 13th century, the Lithuanians conquered the area. To protect the site against Tuutonic Order, a castle was erected. In terms of written records, the first mention of the town is 1636. The name is thought to be derived from the druska.
The word means salt. Some researchers believe the people collected it. Some suggest the salt was used for healing by the locals. The healing qualities of its water have helped promote the area as a tourist destination. It was Czar Nicholas I who declare the area a spa in 1837.
