The Plaza De Armas is noted for the bronze fountain that goes back to the 17th century. The San Pedro Church was constructed by the Jesuits in the 1600s. The city was established in 1535 by the Spaniards. For more than three centuries, the city was their seat of power. That is the reason why there are several churches and monasteries in the area.
Today, metropolitan Lima has about 8.5 million people. Visitors to the city will be struck by the beauty of the colonial architecture. Its rich history has also produced several archaeological sites, helping shed light on its history.
