Penha’s Cable Car – Portugal

Penha’s Cable Car is one of the most thrilling activities you can do when in Portugal. While there are many things you can try out when in the country, this is one of those things tourists always long to experience.


The cable car is in Mount Penha. This is 7 kilometers to the southeast of Guimaraes. This city is in the Braga District to the north of Portugal.

What to See

By riding the cable car, you will get the chance to see the gorgeous vistas around the mountains. The mountains, the lush scenery and the skies are stunning. Space is not a problem in the cable car as there are 4 seats per cabin. There are forty cabins in all. The place itself also has numerous facilities.

The Penha’s Cable Car ride will take about ten minutes to get to the summit. It is 400 m high, and the view here is stunning. From the top, you will see the chapel of Our Lady of Penha and the Atlantic.

The area around the car is also known for its campsite and cafes and bars. There are also restaurants, a horse-riding center and a small golf course.


The Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens were the first to settle in the area around Portugal. The Celts and Romans would also occupy the site. The 15th and 16th centuries saw the country emerge as a major European power. The Age of Discovery saw the nation claim huge territories in Asia, South America and Africa.

As Portugal weakened, the country was no longer able to protect its territories overseas. The Portuguese empire would be further weakened by military campaign losses in Europe.

Penha’s Cable Car in Portugal goes up to a maximum height of 400 meters and covers an area of 1700 meters. The car operates from 10: 00 in the morning until 8:00 in the evening. This schedule is for the summer. The schedule time in winter is shorter and depends on the weather.
