The urban area is situated at Johannesburg. It is close to the mining belt of the city by the south. Majority of the tourists start their tour of the area from Johannesburg. However, you can also reach the area by car.

History
The history of the area started with the Africans eviction. These people were lured to work at the gold mines. Even back then however, they were kept at separate quarters just outside Johannesburg. In 1904, the authorities removed the Indians and Africans in the area and settled them in towns outside the capital.
Resistance to the rule became widespread during the 1970s and 1980s. By 1995, the area had been integrated into the Southern Metropolitan Transitional Local Council. It was in 2002 when the area became a part of Johannesburg. Today, the area has become known for its tourist destinations.

Tours courtesy of travel operators usually charge R 450 for a four hour tour of the area. It will cost a lot more if you want lunch included. Also remember that some tours require a minimum of two people.
