The Dunns River Falls is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. One of the top Caribbean destinations, it draws in thousands of visitors yearly.

The waterfalls are 5 km away from Ocho Rios by Highway A3. It is located in a park.
What to See
One of the best known activities here is ascending the falls in a human chain. These falls span almost 1000 feet. The appearance of the falls is such that they are terrace-like steps. Majority of them are natural, but some have been modified to make them easier to cross.
The falls vertical sections are interspersed by numerous lagoons. Verdant green vegetation covers the sides. This helps cool the place when the sun is at its peak. Despite the height, the Dunns River Falls is easy to navigate. Once you get to the top, the views are spectacular.
Aside from its location, dome-shaped cataracts help make the falls one of the most unique in the world. The cataracts are usually found in limestone caves only, so their presence is unique.
History
The falls is unique because they are being regenerated continuously via the sodium and calcium carbonate deposits. These come from the water river. Another aspect that makes the waterfalls fascinating is that the water goes out into the sea. The beauty of the waterfalls has made it a popular location for shooting films.
The place was used in the 1988 Tom Cruise film Cocktail. The waterfalls was also the place where Dr. No, the first James Bond movie, was shot.
According to legend, the waterfalls was the location of the “Las Chorreras” battle. This took place in 1657 between the English and Spanish who were wrestling for control of the island. The English prevailed and the island was ruled by Charles Pryce. It would go on to become a component of the Belmont property.
The property would eventually be entrusted to the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) for the Jamaicans. Today, the waterfalls have become a major tourist destination.

Aside from the waterfalls, the park has a beach. You will also see several craft shops and a cafe. You can buy a lot of souvenir items and knick knacks.
